Cape Dutch style

Iconic architecture of South Africa, the Cape Dutch style can be found throughout the Western Cape, around Cape Town and the Winelands areas of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl. Designed and built by Dutch colonists in the early 17th century, these simplistic style of buildings feature a distinctive design of ornate rounded gables, thatched roof and white washed walls.

The Cape Dutch style has stood the test of time with many South African homes designed in this classic style. Pictured is a beautiful home in Somerset West Cape Town; once a flat-roof brick box, today it is a reinvented Cape Dutch beauty complete with sculpted facades, white washed walls and spacious interiors.
