[Interiors] Medina oasis

Safari Fusion blog | [Interiors] Medina Oasis | A pared back and understated residence in the heart of Tunis' lively medina
I came across this beautiful North African holiday home recently on Pinterest; pared back and stylishly understated it's located in the heart of Tunis' lively medina.

In traditional Tunisian style it features white washed walls, high ceilings, exposed brickwork, timber beams, intricate tiles and mosaics; along with a maze of rooms and winding stairs.

The private walled courtyard garden, complete with swimming pool, is a welcoming oasis from the summer heat and the hustle and bustle of the medina.

After 7 years of bringing contemporary African art, crafts + homewares into Australian homes it was time for a refresh.

Along with our new logo, we also had this special geometric pattern designed for our swing tag, our little interpretation of a contemporary African geometric pattern; simple and colourful.

Pretty protea

Safari Fusion blog | Pretty Protea | Beautiful interiors by cm studio featuring King Proteas
We are in the final month of Winter (woo hoo!) and with Spring just around the corner there is no better way to freshen up your home then with flowers.

The stylish and sculptural King Protea is the national flower of South Africa and part of their coat of arms. You can find these beauties in their natural state in the fynbos region of the Western Cape, from the Cederberg Mountains to Cape Town's Table Mountain and as far east as Grahamstown.

Lucky for us this beautiful giant of the Protea family is available in Australia and can be found as a cut flower at your local florist in season over Spring and Summer.

As you can see from these lovely pictures, the King Protea is striking displayed either singularly in a vase or in multiples; but best of all they can last up to a month in water.

[Obsession] Mud cloth

Safari Fusion blog | Obsession: Mud cloth | Vintage Bogolan textile chair, Fabio House, Filicudi Island, Sicily Italy via photographer Adriano Bacchella
I am currently obsessed with Mud Cloth [Bogolan cloth] and have noticed it is popping up in interiors in many forms all over the world.

This beautiful textured cloth is woven in Mali from cotton on special narrow looms which produce 15 cm fabric strips, stitched together they form a plain fabric of around 1 x 1.5 metres. Soaking in a dye bath and sun dried, the cloth is painted with a tribal motif using a special mud which reacts with the dye. After removing the mud and washing out the dye the fabric is then complete.

The cloth can be found in Black with a Natural / Beige geometric design and also in a beautiful natural White with Black motifs. A little rarer is the natural White cloth with an Ochre or Goldenrod design.

Pictured are images I found on Pinterest with some ideas of what you can upholster with Mud Cloth, along with some modern interpretations in the form of carpet and wallpaper.
