Sticks & stones

Safari Fusion blog | Sticks & stones | Organic archiecture and interior design at Singita Boulders Lodge, Kruger South Africa

From colour pops to organic style, this week's picks of beautiful African interiors is all about using mother nature as inspiration for design and decoration.

Rendering, stacked stone walls, thatching, sticks and logs, along with timber and wicker furniture creates an understated yet refined style of getting back to nature.

Tip: Introduce nature into your home with a fireplace built into a stacked stone wall or sitting on a floating pebble hearth. Don't forget to include a niche to display stacked firewood.

Kassena Town

Safari Fusion blog | Kassena Town | Dokter and Misses striking tribute to the architectural structures created by the Kassena people in West Africa

For those in New York interested in viewing works by some of Africa's leading designers, then a visit to R & Company's Grains of Paradise exhibition is a must. In collaboration with Southern Guild the exhibition showcases contemporary works by four African design studios from 24 March to 30 April 2015.

On show is the incredible geometric collection Kassena Town by South African husband and wife design team Dokter and Misses - a striking tribute to the architectural structures created by the Kassena people in West Africa.

Colour pop

Safari Fusion blog | Colour pop | Colourful Arabic textiles in the Royal Suite at The Majlis Lamu, Kenya

So who here loves colour? I certainly do, the brighter the better.

Here are my picks this week of gorgeous African interiors featuring colour pops of yellow, red, pink and purple.

Tip: If you are a little colour shy start with a neutral base with your interiors; floors, walls and key furniture pieces. Then introduce colour through your soft furnishings such as cushions and rugs and also with decor pieces and artwork. By keeping your key pieces neutral you will be able to change your colour scheme easily.
