Satyagraha House

Safari Fusion blog | Satyagraha House | Interior style and decor of Gandhi's South African residence via David Ross Photography www.davidross.co.za
Built in 1907 in the leafy Johannesburg suburb of Orchards, Satyagraha House was once home to Mahatma Gandhi and his close architect friend Hermann Kallenbach.

"Gandhi came to South Africa in 1893 as a young lawyer, and remained in the country, besides several short spells in England and India, for 21 years. He experienced racial discrimination almost from the moment he arrived as a naïve 25-year-old."

After extensive restoration and sympathetic extension, Gandhi's former home re-opened in 2011 as a museum and boutique accommodation. Its interiors have been faithfully restored to reflect the modest but aesthetically pleasing way that Gandhi and Kallenbach lived; filled with objects, fabrics and furniture sourced from Gandhi’s native state of Gujarat.

Safari Fusion blog | Pinned: Nguni Wire Head | Our Nguni Wire Head (black) in an industrial monochrome setting
I stumbled upon this image on Pinterest this week which features our Nguni Wire Head in black. It looks amazing in this industrial monochrome setting!

Unfortunately I could not locate the actual source of the image, it was originally pinned via Feedly, so if you know its origins please let me know.

Enjoy the long weekend for those of you in VIC, SA, TAS and the ACT.
