Whitewash

Safari Fusion blog | Whitewash | Painted white bricks walls and whitewashed timber floors and ceiling at the White House, Koringberg Swartland, South Africa
Do I paint my walls white?

This debate has been raging in my head for the past couple of months as I house hunt.
I love white walls, lovely, light, clean and fresh, and easy to work with when it comes to decorating.

But...I love a room that has mood, rich dark [grey] hues that create depth, warmth and an intimate feel.

So the debate will go on, that is until I find my new home and I am forced to finally make a decision.

If like me you love Tretchikoff's prints, then this blog posting is dedicated to you!

Since we launched our beautiful linen cushions printed with Tretchikoff's artwork back in 2013, I can stop noticing Tretchikoff's distinctive portraits popping up in interiors all over the world.

Here are some of my favourites, a beautiful Sandhurst (Johannesburg) apartment with an amazing Tretchikoff collection along with two vintage eclectic style homes in the UK.

For more ideas on how to display a Tretchikoff visit our Pinterest board or better still share your home and your Tretchikoff with us.

A wish to do something cushion

Safari Fusion blog | A wish to do something cushion | Just arrived from South Africa are more of our hand embroidered geometric design Langazela Cushions (pillows)
Our ladies in KwaZulu Natal have been busy the past months embroidering corn sacks to create more of our geometric Langazela Cushions [zulu: a wish to do something].

We have made some little enhancements - the colourful embroidery now covers almost all of the white corn sack (millie bag), the cotton back now features a concealed zip and the insert is feather filled.

Available in two designs - Arrow and Chevron.

Contemporary farmhouse

Safari Fusion blog | Contemporary farmhouse | Refined organic style residence in South Africa's lowveld

I came across this stunning contemporary South African farmhouse whilst reading Visi magazine's website recently...
"The genius of this house is that it has all the modesty of a farmhouse, but the dramatic spaces of a sophisticated New York apartment and the tranquility of a Zen temple rolled seamlessly into one."
To read about the creative team behind this amazing residence, visit Visi.

Shades of grey

Safari Fusion blog | Shades of grey | The colour grey is the perfect neutral to make colour pop | Liss Springthorpe House, Cape Town by Antonio Zaninovic

I just love, love, love the colour grey, it is the perfect neutral to make colour pop. It doesn't have to be cool and crisp (blue undertones), choosing a grey with a yellow or brown base can bring warmth to a room and works perfectly with timber furniture and bright colours such as fuchsia pink, yellow and aqua.

My office walls (and Safari Fusion HQ) are painted a beautiful medium shade of grey, Dulux Doe; during the day with the northern light shining my office is light and bright, whilst in the evening under lighting it has a more moody atmosphere.

Safari Fusion blog | Namji Dolls are back! | Decorative African fertility dolls adorned with beads and cowrie shells by Safari Fusion
Back by popular demand are more of our colourful tribal style Namji Dolls.

Traditionally crafted as a doll for young Namji girls, they were adorned with beads, shells and other decorative trinkets and treasured into adulthood. Our modern version is crafted from a single piece of timber in striking geometric style, decorated with bright colour beads, cowrie shells and mounted on a perspex stand.

Available in two designs with a choice of colour - Blue, Emerald, Lime, White and Yellow.

Light the way [part 2]

Safari Fusion blog | Light the way [part 2] | Bird nest lights at photographer Micky Hoyle's organic style Cape Town home
I love how nature is the inspiration behind some of the beautiful and unique lighting you find in African homes, lodges and hotels.

Such as these weaver bird nest inspired pendants [image 1] featured in photographer Micky Hoyle's Cape Town home and the incredible hippo skeleton [image 3] re-purposed as a dining room chandelier in the luxurious safari style residence of Leobo Private Reserve in South Africa's Waterberg mountains.
