Africa folded

Safari Fusion blog | Africa folded | Recycling old books and creating paper folded works of art in South Africa
I am absolutely fascinated with the art of paper folding; it never ceases to amaze me how one can take a flat piece of paper and with precision, patience and skill, fold it to create something that is truly beautiful.

At the Design Indaba SimpleIntrigue certainly had me intrigued with their recycled book art pieces. Being slightly obsessed with Africa maps of late, the African continent wall piece caught my attention as did the Springbok head, complete with twig horns.

Other creations include book artworks and incredible large-scale installations all made from discarded paper.

Yes this is a lake! Lac Rose or Lake Retba in the West African nation of Senegal owes its rosie hue to salt loving bacteria.

A colour safari

Safari Fusion blog | A colour safari | Cultured eclectic style of Royal Malewane's Africa House, South Africa
It's not often you come across an African safari lodge decorated in bright bold colours, but then Royal Malewane's Africa House is not your average safari lodge.

This sophisticated private villa situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve (part of the greater Kruger area) South Africa is part of the awarded Royal Malewane lodge; once the private bush retreat of owner Liz Biden and her family.

Liz's cultured eclectic style reflects in all her beautiful properties and Africa House is no exception. Each of the 6 suites are filled with Persian carpets, Oriental antiques, African artwork, plush silk furnishings and ornately carved four-poster beds from Mombasa.

Africa House is simply divine.
