The Garage Sale Trail

Safari Fusion blog | The Garage Sale Trail | Saturday 5 May
I had a big attic clear out yesterday in preparation for The Garage Sale Trail this coming Saturday.

I have come to the realisation that I LOVE cushions, that I obviously like to buy a trinket or ten on each of my trips and that I find it hard to say good-bye to things that hold fond memories. I even came across a box of soft toys and dolls from my childhood, which I think we can safely say would now be considered vintage (the ET soft toy is such a cutie!).

What was even better, was rediscovering an African fabric painting that I hadn't looked at in over 15 years - and it is just perfect for my guest bedroom that I am slowly redecorating.

So if you are in the neighbourhood, come and say hello at my home studio and pick up one of my global treasures.

The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency

For the past 13 years I have had a book obsession with the Alexander McCall Smith's series, The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency; in my world McCall Smith cannot write them fast enough for me!

Set in Botswana his stories tell the tales of private detective Mma Precious Ramotswe and her side-kick Mma Makutsi, written in such a charming way with plenty of what I call Africanisms (humour and 'only in Africa' point of view).

The latest book in the series was released last month, The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection, of which I am already halfway through...although I know I should slow down as it maybe another year or two until I get my next Mma Ramotswe reading dose.

Black Friday

Today is Friday the 13th, a very unlucky day for those who are superstitious.

I am not one to dwell on the 'what ifs', but I know my mother would have an absolute fit if I placed a pair of shoes on the table, opened an umbrella inside, walked under a ladder or even laid eyes on a black cat.

I have managed to overcome my inherited superstitions, except for ladders, I will always make a point of walking around and not under one!

Elephant watercolours by Angela Sheldrick

Safari Fusion blog | Elephant Watercolours by Angela Sheldrick | Beautiful original artworks from Kenya
I have blogged before about Angela Sheldrick's beautiful elephant watercolours...they are just so delightful I could not help but share the latest ones I received as a sponsor of Kilaguni (our foster baby elephant!).

Inspired by the baby orphan elephants that are lovingly cared for at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya; each watercolour helps raise funds for the orphans upkeep and rehabilitation.

You can purchase similar ones from her collection in the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Art Store.
